- There are many unique quests scattered across the world, with quest boards in several key locations. The following screenshots are designed to help you navigate basic quest acceptance, from a quest board, and view that quest in your log.
- Some will have a guided interaction with an NPC that may not require the use of a quest board, but you would still manage and view them from your quest log.
Viewing a quest board:
You can view a quest board by double clicking it. At which point you will be presented with a gump like the one in the screenshot below. From there, to accept a quest, you can press the Take button. You can view specifics about a quest before accepting it by selecting Open which is to the right of Take
Viewing, and managing, your quest log:
To view your quest log, click on your avatar once (or shift+click if you've enabled that in your client) and select Quest Log from the context menu.
- NOTE: You may also open and view your quest log by typing in [questlog. You can bind this to a say macro in your client, or thru Razor/UOSteam to create a hotkey.
Opening and viewing/dropping a specific quest in your quest log
To view a specific quest in your quest log once it has been opened select the line item for the quest in question and select Open. To quit the quest select Drop and then answer the prompt that appears asking if you are sure you would like to delete/drop the quest.
- Viewing a quest: When you select Open you'll be shown the following prompt. It will likely contain more information about the quest such as instructions, a description, or what you were hired to do. In this case, we can see that an NPC named Kedar has hired me to kill 20 Bone Knights.
- The Type field indicates what kind of quest you've accepted, in Party quests other players can take the same quest and if you complete it in a party they will also get credit for anything you do towards the quest. Keep in mind that if they started the quest before you it does not synchronize the items you have collected or creatures you have killed with items they have collected or creatures they have killed it merely means you can assist each other in completing the quest. If Solo is written in the Type field then other players can still interact with you, but you will not receive credit towards your objective for anything they do, and they will not receive credit for anything you do.
- The Expires field will have a time stamp in it that updates as time passes only if the quest is on a timer.
- The Points field indicates how many quest points you will receive for the quest. Quest points are a special currency that can be exchanged for reward items, scrolls of power, or doubloons.
- If you have completed the quest the Next Available field will indicate what time of day (real time) you can accept the quest again. Certain quests cannot be repeated and so Not Repeatable will appear there if you are not able to repeat the quest.
- The Repeat field indicates how many times you have previously completed the quest with that character.
- NOTE: For some quests using the Collect button is not required. In the case of a quest where you are hired to hunt something, such as in our example, your progress is automatically tracked for you. In the case of a crafting quest where you are hired to collect specific items, you would need to use the Collect button to gather the materials and take credit for the quest.
- Dropping a quest:
When you opt to drop a quest you will see the following prompt, and it will ask you if you're sure you want to drop the quest. (this is to avoid accidentally dropping a quest in progress!)
- Select Yes and hit Ok and the quest will disappear from your quest log.
- NOTE:If you change your mind and select No what appears to be a blue hued spell book will appear in your backpack. This is called an XMLQuestHolder. Once it has appeared in your bag the only way to permanently get rid of it is to drop it, go back and drop the quest, or complete the quest. This is not a bug but how the Ultima Online client stores and manages quests with the XMLQuest system.
