The History of Man

"It was sealed with a kiss." For many, this is where the story may have ended, but not this story, not our story. On the contrary, our story begins with a simple kiss. A kiss that would change humanity forever. The year was 2200 PME and no human cities or territories existed. Not even common tongue had yet been created. Ultimately, humans were one of two things: Nomads, or Slaves.

Life was equally terrifying for both groups; however it was certain being a slave had only one outcome. During this time, Humans were enslaved by groups consisting independently of Elves, the Orcs, and even the mortifying Drow. Humans were the ideal slave, strong backs, no native language, submissive and easily controlled through fear. The elder races purchased and sold men like any other possession. Promoting the trade of Human slaves even more, great Auctions would be held in the Dwarven City of Damascus for their ownership.

Nomads were scarce and remained in hiding, sticking to low laying caves or small, quickly disassembled settlements. Food was nearly impossible to find, it was not uncommon to go several days without food or drink. These humans resembled animals more than anything, they wore the skins of their kills to keep warm, equipping themselves with sharpened rocks or claws to hunt with. Savages, they were often called, the humans embraced their dirty ignorant ways as a matter of necessity, because it is what kept them alive. These humans were wildly superstitious and prayed to deities the Elder races had never heard of before. As such they were deemed heretics, with orders to be killed on sight for many of the cities.

Bloody clashes and war raged among the elder races, with human beings paying the largest debts in blood. There slavery bound them to fight for Orcish or Elven war parties in order to better preserve the place of the Elder races, to mitigate the loss of their own. These wars were fought in soil, stained red with the blood of man. While man mourned the loss of brothers and lovers, the Elder races showed little emotion towards the plight of the human. They were merely slaves, after all. The humans were lost and without guidance, struggling to survive the harsh cruelty of a world that presented them no mercy, a world demanding the survival of the fittest.

This reality would continue, dwindling the population of the human race. Until, that is, one day a single kiss between a young girl and her recently passed love brought the gift of magic into the hands of men. Though the girl was shunned, one day she would return to the city of the elves wielding a fire unlike any they had ever seen. The slaves turned on their slave masters and for the first time in human history men were free to be their own masters.
