Special gems can be socketed into weapons, armor, clothing, & offhand items that have open sockets in them. The gem augments drop as monster loot throughout the lands. Currently there are around 200 different types of gems that can be socketed.

1) To socket a item it will need to have available sockets on it. For this example we have an Iron Platemail Tunic with 5 available sockets. 01.jpg

2) Our gem is a "Mythic Amethyst" witch will add at +6 Defense Change to any peace of armor. Note: this gem requires 3 open sockets to use. 02.jpg

3) To open the socket gump you will need to use the Item Identification skill on the item. Then target the item that can be socketed. 03.jpg

4) The socket gump will then open. Click a blank spot on the gump then target your gem. In this case we are targeting our "Mythic Amethyst." 04.jpg

5) You will now notice that the "Mythic Amethyst" has been added to the Platemail Tunic. You can click on the gem in the gump to get information about it. 05.jpg 06.jpg

6) Now you will notice on the item that only 2 sockets are available (we just used 3). You will also notice that the Defense Chance is now 6%. 07.jpg

- Most gems can be un-socketed from your items but not all. You will need to use a socket hammer on the item to remove the gems. There is a chance that the item will be destroyed in the process.

- Regular gems are not the same as the gems that can be socketed into items. Hold your mouse over the item to see the name & any properties that will be added to the items.
