All of us here at UO Roleplay are committed to bring your fantasy characters to life, working with you to craft a story for your own. The interactive experience we provide at UO Roleplay is enough to inspire any adventurer. Our community is open, we do not follow traditional “rules” for races, or classes, or any characterization which would subtract from your ability to create –your own- story. Want to relive the classic tale of your favorite hero? Make it happen here, at UO Roleplay. Ever dreamed of living the life of your favorite historical or fantasy character, again, you can make it happen here.

The first thing you may notice about UO Roleplay, is that although we are an enforced roleplaying server, we are not interested in dictating the rules for your roleplaying. So long as you are an active, contributing member of the community, your story is your own. You are free to choose from any race in commonly known D&D or Pathfinder, or any other setting, and make those characters a reality here, within the UO Roleplay universe.

The Dragon Gods, however, are always on the brink of your true goals. They are the annihilators of all things; your existence depends on their ability to invade the haven provided to you. Your adventures will revolve around quests of endurance, where your imagination and your creativity will be put to the test. Here at UO Roleplay, our staff places our first and only priority on your ability to play your character, whoever he or she or it is. Our interactive community will allow you the freedom to play any kind of character you want, from a noble, honorable Orc, to the evil, self-centered High-Elf. Your story is always in your own hands, but your destiny resides in your interaction with the community and the multiple ongoing stories within the server.

Make yourself known, create your story, and resist your destiny. Welcome to UO Roleplay.

The universe which UO Roleplay takes place can be a bit complicated—so an open mind is extraordinarily important. Here at UO Roleplay, we have attempted to composite the realm of fantasy and the knowledge of science into one believable playing experience. We attempt to explain what fantasy worlds so often take for granted using the tools of imagination, science, and the UO Gaming platform.

Once you create a character for UO Roleplay, you, the player, will have to abandon your knowledge of planets and stars in the real world. In UO Roleplay, the planets are defined as “spaces” in a quantum universe. Therefore, all planets are really just the same planet that exists on separate planes of existence—experienced UO players will know these as “facets.” Moongates and recall spells, and other abilities that allow for long distance transportation between facets, is effectively transporting the character through various kinds of, what we call, heat space.

Terms to Know:

Heat Space— The physical Realm, any space where senses perform normally—any space where matter and energy can be used as a bridge between a source and Quantum space to create magical effects. Heat space is measurable, and predictable. Any realm where things grow, or die, or time otherwise exists. For all intents and purposes, Heat Space is the place where physical matter exists. (I.E. With proper incantations, or reagents, or energy output… mages or scientists can predict the outcome of spells because heat space is measurable.)

Quantum Space— An infinite expanse of timeless energy, completely invisible and immeasurable. Entities within heat space, because time does not exist in Quantum space, cannot exist within Quantum space. However, entities from Quantum space can exist within Heat Space, since their physical matter—their biological body— is made up of magical energy. Summoned creatures, souls, spirits, and other kinds of ageless and space-less beings exist within Quantum Space. Quantum space links life together from one heat space to another heat space, creating a constant flux of energy which is equally divided among all physical realms. Mana is the primary link to Quantum Space. (I.E. When mana is used, it is instantly given to an equal entity in another physical realm. When mana is regained, it is being taken away from an equal entity in another physical realm.)

The Fissure— A tear in quantum space created by the Dragon Gods, who use it to pass between their own realm and the realms of heat space. Note: However, it is also the doorway which characters from other, unknown heat spaces, can enter the world of UO Roleplay. No known record exists of any being other than the Dragon Gods entering the fissure, but Narrowhaven exists on the edge of the fissure, hidden from the attention of the Dragon Gods.

The Abyss— The doorway created by the Abyssal Gods leading into the Fissure. Essentially, the Abyss is a place where entities of pure chaos or pure good exist. The Abyss exists between Quantum Space and Heat Space, laid over the Fissure like a curtain.

The Dragon Gods— Entities of pure destruction, and likely the source of creation for all magic in heat space. The Dragon Gods are chaotic entities, with their true motives nearly unknown. What history has shown, however, is that the Dragon Gods create, and then they destroy. The various magic they create is able to be used by any entity in heat space. No record indicates which came first, Quantum Space or the Dragon Gods, but some evidence exists which link their existence to the existence of Quantum Space. There are 13 known Dragon Gods, and their leader is rumored to be Ghel-Arrad, who obliterated realms of heat space faster and with more tenacity than any of his counterparts. The Dragon Gods are unique beings, unable to be duplicated for any reason.

The Natural Gods— The most benevolent or benign of the Gods, mortals or natural beings will be most acclimated to the Natural Gods. Beings of extraordinary power, they have the ability to impose their will on heat space through various means. The Natural Gods derive their power from the actions of those in the natural realm. Ceremonies, rituals, and tithing are the most obvious ways to empower any particular Natural God. Rewards to their followers are particularly rare, but also extraordinarily powerful. Because of their dependence on mortal beings, the balance of power among their own heavens, existing somewhere in quantum space, is in a state of constant flux. Natural Gods are not unique beings, and with enough service paid on the part of an unborn Natural God, they can come to exist in the realm of UO Roleplay. Note: Any character may voluntarily attempt to create a God of their own, or bring a God with them from another realm, given he or she accumulates the proper about of tithing or commitment from others.

The Abyssal Gods— Appearing as either wholly chaotic or wholly lawful, any entity possesses some knowledge of these Abyssal Gods—they are the unnatural portion of heat space. They are widely regarded as the most manipulating and intervening of the Gods. Their power derives from the souls of those in heat space and quantum space combined, increasing by sacrifice and prayer. Any soul properly sacrificed for the sake of the Abyssal Gods will forever be feeding their power from Quantum space after their death. Their rewards are often connected to some kind of prolonged or indefinite service for entities within heat space. Like the Dragon Gods, the Abyssal Gods are unique beings. However, with proper devotion and prayer, and enough followers, Abyssal Gods can grow to immense power. For example, Eltab, Lord of the Hidden Layer, is responsible for creating the Abyss because even some of the Natural Gods sacrificed themselves to him.

Magic— Magic, as stated previously, derives from a connection between heat space and quantum space. Magic can only materialize in a heat space, where outcomes are predictable. Magic, in and of itself, is a completely objective enterprise, and is at the whim of anyone capable of making the connection with the quantum space for a predictable outcome. In the sense of being objective, magic is considered a “tool.” Therefore, anyone who uses necromancy is not inherently evil, and the same for anyone who uses chivalry, they are not to be considered a paladin. Here at UORoleplay, we do not use classes. We allow players to design characters creatively and balanced. Your character is what you make of it using the mechanics we offer. Our mechanics do not define you, you define them, and you should respect other characters/players in the same way.

The God Stones— These stones are rumored to empower a single entity with unfathomable power. The Natural Gods and the Abyssal Gods fear these stones because their own control can be questioned. Whether or not these God Stones are capable of confronting the Dragon Gods is unknown. The last time the stones were gathered and used, the triad druids created Narrowhaven. It is known, however, that by gathering and using the God Stones, the user(s) will be able to master a remnant.

The Remnants— Artifacts of unimaginable power, the Remnants control the balance of quantum space. It is rumored the Triad Druids used the God Stones to possess a single remnant and created Narrowhaven. According to mythology, remnants are able to determine, control, and manipulate the fabric of heatspace. Along the same theory, ancient texts describe the remnants of controlling time, space, fire, water, earth, wind, plasma, dark energy, and light energy. The origins of the remnants are largely unknown, but some speculate the Dragon Gods were, at one time, normal dragons who in their infinite greed and pitilessness came to possess a remnant of their own.

Storyline (Ongoing)

The Cataclysm

I am going to tell you a story, a story where heroes and villains die without discrimination. The story I am going to tell you is not the kind of story that you tell children at nights, who are in need a comforting message to close their little eyes. Unfortunately, stories of those kinds are partially responsible for the way that the real story takes place.

We were crippled by our myths and our fairytales, always under the illusion that justice would win out in the end. The story I am going to tell you is a story of fire, an overwhelming and uncompromising inferno of torment and dread consuming the realms of heat space and quantum space.

To start this story, we should begin at the end, when the triad druids decided to create a haven. An island in Quantum space, nestled secretly behind the fissure. A great plan, you see, the triad druids decided if the new heat space they invented was on the mere lip of the fissure, the Dragon Gods would hardly be able to notice as they passed through. They were right, at least for a while.

As the Natural Gods were forgotten, and the Abyssal Gods losing their own power, Narrowhaven, this new heat space created by the Triad Druids, became more and more vulnerable to detection. The Triad Druids, I should say, were the kind of hopeful beings that were interested only in the longevity of existence. They were benign, but uncompromising in their vision for life, they valued existence, and valued prolonging existence.

Their magic, deriving almost entirely from the offerings of the destructive force of the Dragon Gods, managed to create such a haven. The haven I find you in now, the net, the home, the sacred space, for which this message can reach you. Up until now, no threat has revealed itself to you, but take my word for it… hell is coming. The inferno approaches, and it breaches the natural and unnatural. The same abysmal inferno that consumed my own heat space is soon to come for yours, because you have abandoned the virtues which empowered the shield of camouflage, the curtain which hid you from the serpents of annihilation.

We know of thirteen, the thirteen bringers of perpetual fire, seeking only to consume you and all you love or value. I call upon you, traveler from another space, to find a way to undo the agony wrought to so many. How you do it, is where the story really begins… your fate is but to be written, your life is but your own, but they are relentless beings. They use us in a way that is both callous and capricious. They entertain themselves by creating, and then destroying. Their motives are unknown to us, but we know that our minds exist, and either we are programmed to resist, or we resist because they cannot keep us from doing so. We must, you must, find a way to resist and survive.

Part One

Abaddon, an Abyssal God, once endorsed our souls to make himself immensely powerful. He promised to protect us from the Dragon Gods, but instead of his protection, he fled the battle with the great serpents. We were betrayed, and in our ignorance, we entrapped ourselves. Our king and most powerful paladin, Buth Sankha, resorted to a plot. Our heat space was consumed, but he resolved to ensure those who faced our risk did not make the same mistake we did. Some of our own spirits live on, and we call out to you from within the great Abyssal God, begging for our release so we might...

Timeline

Note: All events are recorded in real time, for simplicity.

05/15/2015: The server first encounters the Abyssal God, Abaddon. This ruthless being had imprisoned the souls of others from a distant heat space. A powerful soul, named Buth Sankha, was able to resist this imprisonment. With the aid of Buth Sankha, Gabriel Duquette, Kiara DeMarkov, Lucius Silvermane, Tisa-Alim, Aliria, Harlan Frost, and Zelrin Kilsek were able to free the captive souls from the minds of the Abyssal God. In return, Buth Sankha agreed to aid the adventurers in their quest to acquire both the God Stones and the Remnants. The legendary armor of Buth Sankha is deposited into the realm. The Abyssal God still lives, as the members of the realm prepare for his retribution.
